A FULL SPECTRUM EXPERIENCE AT MAISON ET OBJET IN PARIS

Robert and I have just experienced three inspiring days of walking the immense halls of Maison et Objet in Paris, where leading designers and brands from around the globe converge twice a year to showcase their latest collections.

Always a great experience, this year the Maison et Objet show inspired us with beautiful and colourful objects for the home – some of which we have hand selected and will be offering at Provide in the coming months. Colour was important this season and a few brands in particular fully embraced this trend of offering their designs in a full spectrum of options.

A highlight of the show was Klaar Prims (pictured at top), a Belgium based glass artist that showcased a wide range of her elegant and sophisticated work including these mouth blown crystal bowls that are made in a variety of colours.

Bethan Gray (second from the top) recently won best British Designer from Elle Decoration UK and her Brogue tables that made their debut at Maison et Objet confirmed this prestigious acknowledgement. With three legs, these wood tables feature coloured, hand crafted leather tops with brogue detailing – so simple and incredibly stylish.

The brand Zuzunaga (third from the top) is synonyms with colour – in fact they were recently awarded with the best pixilation prize in the Wallpaper Design Awards 2014. Their "Integrate Time and Space" collection features handwoven pillows, throws and blankets in over scaled designs from the pixel theme – now with a black base that gives the coloured wool yarns real pop.

UK's True Grace (pictured at bottom) is a boutique candle maker and has long been part of Provide's offering. At the show, we were very excited to see their new "Curious" collection that features amazing new scents in a variety of coloured glass containers and packages. We placed an immediate order and know these will be a hit for spring and summer 2014.

Overall the show ran the full spectrum with many ideas and concepts on display, but the theme of colour multiples was what inspired us most.

INSIGHT INTO THE MAGICAL WORLD OF CIRE TRUDON

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Cire Trudon's representative, Anthony. Anthony popped into Provide with a very large, and I'm sure extremely heavy bag filled with candles he had been lugging across North America for weeks. He took some time to chat with me a bit about the candles and also to give me a brief, but very informative history lesson.

He spoke of each candle like a fine wine, which was actually quite fitting considering his background was in wine. Walking me through each and every fragrance he described in adoring detail how each were created, such as  'Rol Soleil' which mimics the scent of the large wooden floors of the Hall of Mirrors in the Chateau de Versailles, vapors of wax, candelabras and palace.

In 1643, Claude Trudon and his son Jacques were shopkeepers and wax producers, supplying candles to light their customers' homes and for the parish. As the company grew, it wasn't long until Trudon became the official wax provider to King Louis XV and to some of the most important churches. Trudon was Napoleans producer during the Empire, and survived the electric revolution as well as the industrial revolution. Today, Cire Trudon continues to produce clean burning wax candles made with vegetal material and whimsical scents that take you back to a past place each time you light them.

BLACK AND GOLD, A REFINED DUO

A few weeks ago Robert and David returned from Spain and re-merchandised Provide. When I walked in the next day I immediately noticed the beautiful gold and black display wall which David had put together, instantly I fell in love with the elegance and warmth of the gold Martha Sturdy pieces and Judy Ross cushions paired together with the bold ebony blacks of the Pacific Connections lacquer trays and whimsical personality of 'The Black Guest' by Lladro. Grouped together you get an instant luxurious and sophisticated combination.

A VISIT TO CIRE TRUDON'S PARIS BOUTIQUE

While in Paris for the Maison & Objet show, we made time to visit the Cire Trudon boutique in St. Germain de pres on the rue de Seine. It is a beautiful space that displays this very special brand's product in unique and imaginative ways. For over four centuries, Cire Trudon has built an unrivalled candle manufacturing expertise. Skillful and demanding, Maison Trudon draws its talent from its craftsmanship heritage and never ceases to innovate. With a wax paste made of vegetable substances, forming a unique blend, miscible with any fragrance and allowing a perfect long-lasting combustion.

Provide has been carrying the scented candles for a few months now (and they have had a great reception), but it was wonderful to see the pillers, sprays, wax busts, accessories and more all merchandised with such flair. We just may have to offer that Napoleon bust soon.

CIRE TRUDON – A PROVIDE EXCLUSIVE

We are very excited to announce that Provide was selected by Cire Turdon – a French luxury brand that dates back to 1643, to be their first retailer in Western Canada.

With illustrious beginnings as a candle supplier to French royalty, Cire Trudon has lasted through these past centuries to now produce a wide range of products, open flagship stores in Paris and New York (pictured above) as well as develop a hugely devoted following. Considered one of the best scented candle makers in the world today, Cire Turdon candles feature a %100 vegetable-based wax, a pure cotton wick, a product that is completely bio-degradeable, allergen free and contains no pesticides. Housed within a beautiful glass vessel that is hand-made in Vinci Italy and because the candles burn cleanly, the vessels can be easily reused for drinking glasses or small vases.

Provide will be stocking twelve of their most popular scents in their classic candle including Nazareth  (their holiday candle) and Dada with hints of camomile tea, mint leaves and eucalyptus. We think these will make delightful and unexpected gifts this holiday season. Look for them to arrive at Provide late next week.
