MUD AUSTRALIA – A HAND-MADE TABLEWARE COLLECTION WITH A MINIMALAST AESTHETIC

While in New York this week, David and Robert visited the Mud showroom to hand select specific pieces from their collection.

Founded in 1994 by Shelly Simpson, this handmade collection combines clean lines and a large range of colours and pieces to mix and match. The end result is a product that combines a minimalist aesthetic with an artisan finish. Made from Limoges porcelain (which is a hard paste porcelain that has been around since the 1700's), sourced directly from France. The deep colours come from the pigment being added throughout the porcelain body, a clear glaze is then hand brushed to the exterior of each piece to create a 'stone-like' surface.

Handmade in Sydney, Australia by professional and in-house ceramicists, this collection evolves seasonally with the addition of new shapes and colours. Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, these dishes provide a timeless alternative to mass-produced ceramic design. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and Instagram for Mud's arrival.

MARTHA STURDY 'BREAKS' INTO A NEW FORM OF ART

Martha Sturdy is known for taking what she sees in her surrounding environment and applying that to her unconventional artworks. In her newest works called "breaking", Sturdy observes the effects that once has as it builds up and breaks apart. The jagged forms are made of synthetic resin, which is then smashed and poured out onto steel canvases. The resins blue tint and rippling surfaces are a convincing likeness of ice. Sturdy satisfies the human impulse to seal down what is, by nature, ephemeral. In doing so, she allows for an even closer appreciation of this material. Strongly believing in throwing the rules out the window, Sturdy allows herself to get in depth with her creative process making the end result of these new works utterly unique.

STURDY'S NEW JAPANESE INSPIRED 'OSAKA' COLLECTION

During a visit to STURDY's showroom last week, Robert & David brought back some beauties from Martha's new 'Osaka' collection. This selection features an alluring contrast of resin shapes inset into the classic STURDY forms.

The inspiration for this collection emanated while Martha was traveling through Japan. She was taken by how the clear moonlit nights washed over the luscious fields of age-old bamboo creating a dream like quality. Frequently inspired by natures beauty, it was only natural for Martha to integrate this inspiration into her resin designs.

Each resin strip or sphere is hand-poured & hand-sanded. They are then placed into the mold and the coordinating outer colour is then poured on top, this is what distinguishes the difference in the placement of the strips. Some will appear bold as they have been pushed further to the front of the piece, or they may appear more diluted as they have been pushed further to the back. This process is what makes each resin piece unique.

SHEREEN DE ROUSSEAU'S LATEST COLLECTION ARRIVES AT PROVIDE

Provide has just received Shereen De Rousseau's latest spring 2013 jewellery collection. This season she has mixed things up by incorporating different charms and medallions as well as new beads such as hawkseye, natural moonstone, labradorite and pyrite.

One of her most recent designs includes a wrap bracelet (shown above in the last image) that can fit any size wrist. Consisting of one single strand of beads and multiple charms, the bracelet can be wound around the wrist or wrapped twice to be worn as a layered necklace.

Overall the collection is very wearable and can be dressed up for an evening out or dressed down for a casual shopping day. Great work Shereen!
